First performed May of 2006 at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts by the Peabody Quartet, The Righteous and the Wicked takes its title and primary musical subject from a Red Hot Chili Peppers song of the same name.

The work has also been performed by the M. Nostitz Quartet of Prague, Czech Republic.
